Inspiration Monday: JLo

I tend to forget about Two Birds’ Inspiration Monday until Monday afternoon it’s too late, but last week I remembered to check and, lo and behold, the picture was up Thursday, which meant I could plan for Monday’s outfit well in advance.  Yay for making my life easier!

Here’s the inspiration shot for today: A beautiful, chic Jennifer Lopez wearing a sequin skirt, a neutral sheer top, and stunning neutral heels.

And here’s my (winter-and-work-friendly) take on it: A shimmery grey dress under an oversized cream sweater, worn with black lace tights and black OTK boots.  I added a little extra sparkle with some long necklaces (JLo has this goin’ on too, if you look close, it’s just more subtle), since I opted not to wear sequins to work.

The dress was a bargain find at Charlotte Russe over the summer, and the sweater is a newer thrift favorite (a score from Wings).  The tights… I don’t remember where they came from, and my boots are a few years old from CutesyGirl (which is closed).  My necklaces include a thrifted chain from the Shelter Inc. thrift store, a vintage Avon pendant from Goodwill, a “claw” necklace from Claire’s (Confession: it was originally part of my jewelry for a pirate costume, along with the gold chain!), and a long strand of faux freshwater pearls from Urban Outfitters.

What’s even cooler was that I originally planned to wear most of this outfit on Friday for my drive to Peoria.  I must have been channeling the wonderful ladies at Two Birds on Wednesday night when I put it together!  I made a few tweaks to it Thursday night and put it aside for today, glad that I wasn’t going to have to worry about it Monday morning.

Yay for finally getting to participate in Inspiration Monday!

Haha thanks! I like JLo’s, but it def wasn’t suited for the weather here (or work for that matter).
