Style Pause: Life Update

You may or may not have noticed that I haven’t been posting much. Or maybe that a few things have looked different in the posts I have done recently. I’ve had quite a lot going on lately, and I figured I’d take a minute here to fill you in on some things.

Relocation, Part One

Back in July I moved in with my brother. The place hubs and I were renting was wonderful, but the owners wanted to start thinking about putting it on the market so they could sell. Not wanting to worry about keeping a house immaculate (especially with Ms. Trixie running around), we opted to move out.

The process started in May, and involved a lot of clearing out, packing up, and cleaning up, and we finally moved from our four bedroom place into two bedrooms in my bro’s place. He had the extra room, and it worked out well for us, though it added 20 or so minutes onto my commute (I was spoiled, I’ll admit, with my 6 minute commute).

As you can imagine, there have been quite a few adjustments to have been made. For one, I went from having a bedroom that was a closet to having a real closet in my bedroom, haha. But between the additional time on the commute and getting used to the new living situation, blogging was kind of put on the back burner. Heck, for a bit, it was taken off the stove and put back in the fridge.

Relocation, Part Two

But that’s not all. My husband and I are orchestrating another move, but this time, it’s not just to another Chicago ‘burb. Nope. This move is taking us much further away from the place we’ve called “home” our entire lives.

We are moving to Knoxville, Tennessee!

My husband was offered an amazing opportunity down in Knoxville, and it was something he just couldn’t pass up. A once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing, for real, and I’m so incredibly proud of him! So we are heading to the land of the Smoky Mountains, University of Tennessee, moonshine, and milder winters.

It’s scary, exciting, and surreal all at the same time. As much as we’ve talked about moving somewhere warm, we never thought we’d actually do it. Our families are both here, our friends too. We both grew up here, and Chicagoland is pretty much all we’ve ever known (spare a few trips to other places here and there). But it’s ok… we’ll make it work, because that’s what we do.

Relocation, Part… Three?

As we make our way down to Tennessee, I’m going to be phasing out Suburban Style Challenge. Awhile back, I changed my Instagram handle to “sparkingstyle”, and that’s what’s going to take SSC’s place: Sparking Style. I mentioned in my Sweet Works post that I was looking at focusing more on lifestyle posts, and this move gives me a great opportunity to do so.

While we’re planning on renting for our first year in Knoxville, we are planning on buying down there afterwards, and I’m looking forward to sharing that new space as we grow it. I’m also looking forward at talking more about men’s style, adventures in our new hometown and the surrounding area, recipes, and perhaps even a little bit more about Trixie.

So that’s the news!

I don’t have a set date on when I’m heading down to Knoxville or moving over to Sparking Style. My husband is heading down before me to start his job, and I’ll be here doing what I do and working on finding a job in that area. But don’t worry… I still have a few more fun things to wrap up here at SSC before I make the move.

Until then, now you know what’s been going on and why I’ve been a little quiet lately.

All good things, and even better to come!

Ahhh! What an adventure. I’m sad you’re leaving and we still haven’t managed to connect even though I’ve been back in the area for over a year now, but how exciting to start this new chapter in your lives. Good luck with wrapping everything up. – Katy

Yea it’s pretty crazy! I’m excited and can’t wait to make the move, even though I’ll miss everyone here. I have a feeling I’ll be around until after the holidays, so maybe once the crazy season is over you and I can connect before I go.
