Random Outfits: Black, Cream & Cognac

I’ve decided to make a minor change to my Random Outfits series, largely because I’m so far behind on getting looks up. From this point forward, I’m going to drop the “when” from the Random Outfits post title. I’ll still explain when I wore the look, but this is just so much easier for me.

This look was kind of a no-brainer. I wanted something easy to wear to the office on an early September day, something that was comfortable without looking like I hadn’t bothered putting myself together. So I settled on a black tunic from H&M (sadly, sold out) with black leggings. Because I don’t like wearing sleeveless tips to the office, and this tunic is sleeveless, I added a lightweight cream cardigan. I then added cream knee socks and my Iona Camel boots from GulitySoles, which I folded down so they were just knee height.  I braided my hair and mussed the braids up a bit, added my Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant and earrings that coordinate nicely with it (also from H&M, but also sold out).  And that’s it.

I mentioned in my GuiltySoles post how much I liked these boots (and shared this outfit there), but I tell you, they’re just great! They’ve been perfect for fall, and they match one of my favorite purses perfectly, which is nice (I know, I know, shoes and bags don’t have to match, but sometimes I like when they do). They fit nice, with a little extra room (I ordered a half size up on purpose) so that I can wear them with thick or layered socks. I love the soft almond toe that makes these a little nicer than if they’d have had a round toe. They do still lean a little pirate for me folded down, but that’s ok because they’re still adorable, even a little piratey.

I think one of the best parts about the boots though is the zipper detail down the back.  They are functional zippers, which I guess could be nice, though I don’t have issues just sliding these on, I imagine if I wore them with jeans, the ability to zip them up would be really nice. I also like the low wedge heel, which gives me a little extra height and makes these a little sleeker, and therefore a little nicer.

Overall, this was a great look for a just-starting-to-get-cool early fall day, and perfect for my wear-what-you-want office setting. Outfits like this are great for weekend or weekday, and proof that not only can black and brown work together, but so can comfort and chic.
