Finally back with some more Random Outfits posts! I had some camera issues, without realizing it, and while all my photos came out fine, it was the dates that were messed up. Somehow, the date on my camera reset itself to January 1, 2013, randomly at the beginning of the month, so almost all of my photos for the month of June were way off in terms of date. Which, of course, is a problem when you’re posting about when you wore something. So I had to spend a few hours matching up outfits with Instagram posts, travel notes in my calendar, and other random clues that had me figure out each and every look. Needless to say, it was a pain in the butt!
Anyway, June rolled in with some seemingly typical June weather… mid-60’s for the lows and mid-80’s for the highs. Not too shabby! Of course, the higher temps meant the office AC was kicked on full blast and being inside became a less-than-enjoyable experience. Often times, people wonder why I don’t dress for the weather, but I can’t! I have to dress for the temps inside, and while they’re reasonable (70 degrees), I have a vent that blows directly on my desk and makes it rather chilly. So I just add layers, wear long sleeves/pants, and deal with it. I’m the minority in terms of how I feel about the cold, so I’d rather deal than make the rest of the office suffer.
June 3: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
On the lovely mid-80’s day that was June third, I wore leggings, a knock-off Jack Daniel’s whiskey shirt, and a pretty pink vest that was long a closet orphan. It was one of those outfits that was born out of “I’m sick of wearing everything else and just want to be comfortable today”. The solid black provided a nice base for the vest, but wasn’t too boring thanks to the fun graphic on the top. I’d been struggling with how to wear this vest for quite some time, but couldn’t really justify getting rid of it. In this case, it covers my leggings-clad butt nicely, allowing me to wear a shorter shirt. I opted for black flats with this look, as well as a stack of Stella & Dot necklaces for a little glam. Here’s the whole look…
And here’s a close up of the necklaces and top, with a peek at the pretty pattern on this vest. The vest is actually an Anthropologie sale rack find from a few years ago. It was one of those things that I couldn’t pass up, both for the price and the look. But when I brought it home, it proved to be an odd piece in my wardrobe. But it works nicely with this look, I think. The necklaces are the Stella & Dot Sutton and the Sahara pendant, with an old three-layer piece added for extra layers.
And here’s a top-down look at my shoes. I managed to find these new Dollhouse flats at Savers for like, 10 bucks. A pretty good find!
I liked this look and am glad I let this vest stick around despite tons of closet purges between when I got it and now. Now that I have worn it once, I think I’m going to play with it a little more and try to get a feel for it. It’s a nice way to add a fun print and a pop of color.
Do you have a closet orphan you just can’t bear to part with?
If so, take it out, dust it off, and try to make an outfit with it. You might just be pleasantly surprised!
