After a little bit of a break (partially because I thought I was all caught up, since I forgot how fast this year’s flying by) I’m back with another Random Outfits post for you! This look is from all the way back on May 1, when I decided I was going to interpret this pin because I was taking the day off work to walk in a fashion show for Bii Hair Salon. Since it’s not something I would wear to work, I figured wearing it for and “off duty” day would work. It was a little chilly to be in a skirt, but I was so done with pants at this point of “spring” that I didn’t care!
Casual, Sporty Chic, Take Two
I loved the inspiration look so much, that I actually spent quite a bit of time searching for the perfect lace skirt to recreate it. While the one I ended up with isn’t as light as the one in my pinspiration, it’s work-appropriate and easy to dress up and down, so I’m ok with it. Plus, it doesn’t feel as delicate as the one in my inspiration pic, which for me, is probably a good thing. Anyway, I took my lace skirt (which I found at Express, but appears to be out of stock now) and topped it with a thrifted basketball jersey, which I tied a little tighter in the back with a shoelace. Under the jersey, I wore my black bralette, but you couldn’t see it because of the black cardigan and the black pleather jacket I was stuck wearing because it was cold. I opted for Chucks because they were more comfortable than anything else I wanted to wear, and layered my Syd Rocks necklace with my Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant and my old thin gold necklace. My hair is messily fishtailed in this shot courtesy of George at Bii, and I don’ think I’ll ever be able to get this great look on my own, haha! And I shot these pick carrying my Coach bag, because it worked really well with the whole look.
This look really combined my rocker style with the sporty trend, which I’m totally lovin’ right now. It was super comfortable to hang out in all day, and I got a ton of complements throughout the day, which is always a plus. Here’s a closer look at the necklaces I was sporting with this look.
And a top-down view of my look so you can see the shoes. These particular Chucks were from GAP, actually. I got them on clearance when the two companies ceased their partnership, and while I didn’t wear them all that often for quite a few years, I couldn’t bear to part with them. Now they’ve made it into my semi-regular rotation. I like them quite a bit, and find myself wondering why I didn’t wear them that much before.
This outfit was generally a success, but I’m thinking I might need to alter the jersey if I’m going to wear it without the cardigan and jacket. I am pretty sure I got it at Salvation Army, which means I didn’t try it on when getting it. Had I, I might have passed based on how baggy it is. It hangs, and not in a cute way. So I might need to take it in… we’ll see what I decide to do I guess.
What are your thoughts on the sporty trend?
Are you a fan, or is it something you’re moving past? Or do you show your sporty colors by actually being a fan of a certain sports team? Me personally… I used to be a huge Chicago Bulls fan, back in the ’90’s when they kicked ass year after year. Now? Eh, I’ll root for Chicago teams and celebrate big wins, but generally don’t care too much for sports in general.
