When Diamond Candles contacted me asking if I would like to review a candle and host a giveaway I was so excited! I had seen Diamond Candles on other bloggers’ sites, and had even entered to win one of my own a couple times. I never thought I’d get a chance to do a review on my own!
About Diamond Candles
The idea for Diamond Candles was conceived shortly after the companys’ founders, David and Brenda, were married. However, they were in the construction business and they didn’t need to do anything with the idea until the economy slowed. In 2010, they put their heads together and came up with the idea of putting rings worth anywhere from $10 to $5000 in all-natural soy candles. The idea was that you’d have a lovely scented candle to warm your home, but you’d also have something fun to look forward to while that candle was burning. And when it was ready to reveal your ring, you’d have something you would treasure for years to come. It’s all a pretty neat idea, if you ask me! You can read the whole story, and watch a great video, on the Diamond Candles website.
Choosing a scent to review was pretty easy, since I know what kind of scents hubs and I tend to like. I looked through all the scents, listed on the top, and immediately went to the Floral section, where I found Sweety Pea. Sweet pea is a scent that always reminds hubby of me, since I wore that scent lotion all the time while we were dating, and because I knew he’d like it, it went on my list of scents to try. I almost checked out right then and there, but then I saw the Life Moments section, and was intrigued, so I clicked. That’s where I found the Anniversary scent, which said it was a mix of “magnolia blossoms, gardenia, jasmine, and vanilla”. It sounded like an interesting mix of scents that would be romantic and warming, without being too sexy. I added it to my cart and quick looked at all of the Diamond Candles scents, discovering other interesting-sounding blends, like Relax & Revive, Midnight Kiss, and Cuddle. They all sounded delightful, but I stuck with the Anniversary scent.

When it came, it had been in my mailbox all day on a 90+ degree day, and I was almost afraid to open the box! I thought I was going to find a horrible, melted mess of a candle. But, despite sitting on its side in my mailbox for quite a few steamy hours, my Diamond Candle was perfect! I was already impressed, haha. I opened it up and lit it right away, bringing it upstairs to fill our bedroom with its scent before bed. In fact, I was so excited to get my candle and start getting down so I could dig out that ring, I forgot to get a pic of it new and unlit! It was a lovely floral scent that wasn’t just floral, but had a warm note to it because of the vanilla. It wasn’t over-powering either, which is nice. In fact, as I write this I have it burning alongside a no-name gardenia candle and when I walk out of the room and back in, the Anniversary candle scent is present, but it doesn’t slap you in the face and make you think “woah, what’s that supposed to be covering up?!”
By the end of the first couple hours, I could already see the gold foil that encased my ring! I’ll be honest, I thought about going to town with a pair of needle-nose pliers, but I didn’t want to ruin the look of my candle. It was burning nice and evenly, and I could tell the wick was centered (probably because all Diamond Candles are hand-made). That’s so rare nowadays, I didn’t want to mess it up! So I waited.
But I didn’t have to wait much longer, because after just a few hours of burning the very next night, I could see almost the entire gold foil packet. It was so exciting! I blew out my candle, as suggested, and quickly reached in with a pair of needle-nose pliers to pull my ring out.
It was super easy. Each foil packet is held to the side of the jar with a little bit of glue, so pulling the ring out is easy, and you don’t have to worry about it sinking to the bottom each time you burn the candle. I had paper towels sitting next to me so I didn’t drip any wax and so I could wipe the wax off. When I was done, I unwrapped the foil and discovered my ring.
My ring, while not one that’s worth $5000, looks beautiful! It’s silver with CZ stones in it, and is a lovely classic style. It fits my right index and middle fingers perfectly, and I now have a little bling to add to that hand for special occasions.
