Holy crap, we’re halfway into August already! You know what that means… black-to-school specials are rampant (hooray sales!) and it’s time to start thinking about fall. Yes, fall!
Fall is my favorite time of year, fashion-wise.
I love the transition from warm to cool weather, and the ease of fashion that comes with it. And if you’re a longtime SSC fan, you know that already. In fall, you can wear dresses, shorts, pants, tanks, grandpa cardigans, boots, layers and texture. I love it! I can’t get enough. I love the smells of fall, the warm drinks and soups, stews, and seasonal holidays (hello Halloween!). I love it all!
And this year, I’m also loving the fall color palette.
“Doesn’t she say that every year?” you’re wondering. I probably do. Oh well. This year, it’s a richer, dustier set of colors compared to last year. The colors are similar, but they’re not as bright. And that’s ok. Last year’s palette, while nice, was like we were desperately grasping on to summer, begging it not to leave. Like we used to do every late July as school kids.
But this year, we’re embracing fall, welcoming it, and telling it to make itself at home. We’re offering it a mug of spiced hot chocolate and asking whether it prefers shorts with tights, or skirts and over-the-knee socks, but we’re not smothering it with thick afghans our grandmothers knit, shoving a bowl of chili in its face, and demanding Fall hunker down for the long haul. We’re also not completely ignoring Summer here either, by diving into dark, rich tones. Pantone’s Fall 2013 color choices are, I think, spot on.
From Left to Right: Emerald (the 2013 Color of the Year), Mykonos Blue, Linden Green, Acai, Samba, Koi, Deep Lichen Green, Vivacious, Turbulence, and Carafe
No, the fall 2013 colors are very much a mix of colors that allow you to wear your light, flowy summer dresses with thick knit tights, or mix that floral patterned top with a plaid wool skirt. And they are very much why I love fall.
These colors are super easy to wear, too!
So let’s get excited about fall! I used to lament the end of summer, mostly because it meant the end of freedom from school and all the BS that came with it. But now, I wrap my arms around fall and encourage you to do the same.
To help, I’ll be doing a series of posts discussing fall trends as we get closer to the season. In the meantime, tell me your favorite things about fall. The leaves changing and their crunch underfoot? The cool weather? Or maybe you love the rich smells that fill your home as you light a fire and wrap up in your favorite chunky cardigan. Leave a comment and let me know!
