I’ll admit, I was torn on wearing a crop top past 30. It struck me as one of those things that, past 25, you just don’t do. But I really liked the trend and decided “screw it, I’m an adult and I have the body for it, so I’m gunna take the risk”. I figured I’d get a top that was versatile and easy to work with and ease myself into the cropped top trend. I have another cropped top, but it’s proving hard to style. And when I came across the Cotton Spandex Jersey Crop Tee at American Apparel, I knew it would work for me.
Choosing a color was easy.
Surprise! I had no issues choosing a color. I went right with black because I knew it would work best in my wardrobe, and get the most wear. Plus, it seemed the tamest color for someone in her 30s to wear. It is available in 20 colors though, in sizes S through L, if you like options. I’m also a fan of Lapis, Menthe, Truffle and Boysenberry–they’re all great colors I could totally work into my existing wardrobe.
Styling was easy too!
A summer Saturday spent running stray errands and working around the house, proved to be the perfect opportunity to go a little 90’s with this crop tee. I wore it under overalls, which I cut from their 90’s flared goodness to shorts. Yes, these are authentic 90’s overalls, and I only know because I refused to get rid of them for about 15 years, knowing they’d come back in style. It was only recently that I braved cutting them, and boy am I glad! They looked smashing with my Steve Madden Repp Booties and the American Apparel Cotton Spandex Jersey Crop Tee, which was just short enough to let a tiny sliver of skin peek. I went with a simple gold necklace, which I got at an estate sale, tossed my hair in a ponytail, and was ready to move furniture and run errands with the fam.
This cropped top is perfect for when I want to show just the tiniest amount of midriff, without going over the top. It’s surprisingly age-appropriate when styled right (with a high-waist pencil skirt, for example), and looks great. It will be fun to style as fall approaches too. Cropped top with my leather pencil skirt? Hell yes!
Love it? Want more variety?
Well, you’re in luck! Not only is the Cotton Spandex Jersey Crop Tee available in 20 colors, but you can get it in printed, polka dot, striped, and floral too! Oh, and there are stretch floral lace and velvet versions too if you want to add some luxe texture to your look. Me? I’d snag this baby in the large blue tea rose floral print, the black natural stripe, green gable floral lace, and navy velvet if I knew I could pull the cropped tee off at the office. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’d work as well as I wish it would.
