I’ve been eying this skirt, or one like it, for quite some time. I love the airiness of the long chiffon skirt, and the ease with which it presents itself. So when American Apparel agreed to send me some products for review, the Chiffon Double-Layered Full Length Skirt was one of the first items I put on my list.
Choosing one color to order this skirt in was tough. It comes in nine great colors, all of them easy to incorporate in pretty much any wardrobe. I was torn between Majesty, a rich purple, Lieutenant, an olive green, and Port, a burgundy. I opted to go with Port, though I certainly wouldn’t pass up this skirt in any color. In fact, I’ve been considering getting another one, because I like it that much.
Sizing was a challenge for me on this piece as well. I know American Apparel tends to run on the small side, but when I looked at the size chart, the measurements for the Small/Medium would have worked for me, but since my hips are rather wide (especially compared to my waist), I was worried that I’d have trouble getting the elastic waist over all that. So, I asked the woman I was in contact with what she would recommend. They sent me the Medium/Large skirt, and it fits me perfect.
Working it? Easy!
I knew the second I unwrapped the skirt what I would wear it with. And fortunately, we had a day that was warm enough to allow for it. I paired it with a tucked in grey tee, denim vest, and leopard flats. Because I was wearing it to work, I added black capri tights underneath, because I was worried that, despite the double layer, it might be a little sheer. No one said anything though, and you couldn’t even see the tights. I piled on 4 great necklaces… a short one that I found at an estate sale, my “Love” necklace from Forever21, my feather necklace from Forever21, and my long claw chain from Claire’s (all of them are pretty old). My earrings are an old pair from Charlotte Russe that I regret not buying 4 of. Seriously. I wear them almost every day. Oh, and my bag? Faux Tory Burch, from one of the swaps I recently went to. I’m obsessed with it!
And I’m also obsessed with this skirt! The lightness makes it perfect for warmer days, but easy to layer for cooler weather. The length is different. It hits me right at the ankle, which is nice because I can wear it with flats easy, and can wear it with heels as well. I don’t have to worry about it dragging on the ground or anything. It hits me right at the waist, and is tight enough to stay there, but not so tight that it’s uncomfortable. A perfect, versatile fit.
If you’re looking for a chiffon skirt, your search can end here.
American Apparel’s Chiffon Double-Layered Full Length Skirt is a great buy. And what’s more? It’s age-appropriate for he late-20’s, early-to-mid-30’s ladies, which (as I’m sure you know) can be a big challenge. This skirt is super versatile. You can wear it instead of jeans on a casual Friday at the office, or dress it up with heels and a cute take for girls’ night out. And with so many color options, you’re sure to find one that works with your wardrobe.
But bigger ladies, before you order, take your measurements! This skirt is only available in Small/Medium and Medium/Large, with the M/L waist only stretching to 28″. So if you’re plus sized, this skirt likely isn’t for you, unfortunately.
Huge shout out to the fantastic Brianna from Bre’s Baubles, who recommended I contact American Apparel. I never would have thought to contact them if she hadn’t made me aware of an opportunity. Hooray for bloggers lookin’ out!
