21 Day Challenge, Day 15: A New ‘Do

Day 15 of the 21 Day Challenge meant trying something new with your hair.

When I did this the first time, I put a bow in my hair and changed my part up a little.  It was shorter back then, and in that weird stage where there wasn’t much I could do in terms of styling at all.  I’m also extremely hair-challenged.  Always have been.

This time around, I scrunched my hair, curled a few select pieces, and then pulled it half back with a barrette.  All three of those things combined are totally new for me.  I’ve scrunched, and curled, and worn it half-up, but I’ve never done it all at once before.  I figured today was as good a day as any, especially considering that right now, that’s about all I can do when it comes to styling my hair.

It was also our “welcome spring” pot luck at work, and we were encouraged to wear baseball shirts.  Usually I like to dress a little sarcastic for potlucks–the last spring one I took cues from Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn from the movie Major League.  But this time around, I actually had a baseball shirt I could wear, thanks to hubs.  He bought it for me when I won tickets to a Cubs game last spring.

So I wore a Cubs shirt.  Over it, I put an oversized white cardigan and (again) my black scarf.  I wore my new favorite jeans, a pair of Rock & Republic skinny jeans with a black stripe down the outside, and my red sneaker wedges.  I added my braided leather cuff and my Supernatural Protection Charm Bracelet from Laughing Vixen Lounge (one of my Spring 2013 Fashionista Event wins).  I thought the charm bracelet was a subtle nod at your die-hard Cubs fans’ “maybe next year”… enthusiasm, haha.  I figured with the black and white over the Cubs shirt, I gave a nod to the Sox fans too… or I at least covered the Cubby logo on the shirt enough so that none of the Sox fans in the office gave me crap about it (I’ve never quite understood the rivalry… can’t we just root for all of the Chicago teams and call it a day?  But I’m not a baseball fan in general, so maybe that’s why I don’t really get it.).

Check out the look.

21 Day Challenge: Day 15

I liked the fun, playfulness aspect of this look.  It’s easily something I can make work with any kind of top under that cardigan, and perhaps something I’ll try again, with something that’s a little more me.  These jeans are amazing–they fit me perfect–and I wish Kohl’s had a plain pair in my size, because I would have bought those too (they were marked down from $88 to $29).  Ah well, another time I’m sure.

In terms of my hair… eh.  I much prefer the straight look I do regularly, or having it up.  Wavy has it’s place, but I don’t think it’s work.  Maybe that’s because I didn’t particularly like the time it took to achieve this look (and let’s be realistic, the reason it’s half up was because I didn’t like the way it looked curled/scrunched and all the way down).  Though I can’t lie, I can’t wait until it’s long enough to do a full side braid.  I’m so close!

So that’s day 15 of this round of the 21 Day Challenge.

LOVE the bracelet. It’s got so many components, it would keep me busy for awhile.

I used to HATE my hair wavy. Until I started wearing it curly almost every day and it actually got curlier! Crazy, huh? I still straighten it if I want to go all out but those are basically my only two styles.

That is kind of strange that it got curlier! I used to hate my super-straight hair, but I kinda like it now. Maybe because I’ve realized that I can just chop it off and it’s pretty awesome when it’s short? I dunno. Still getting used to long hair. This is the longest it’s been in 6 years!
