21 Day Challenge, Day 9: Monochrome Doesn’t Mean Boring

And day 9 of the 21 Day Challenge the task was to dress in monochrome.

When I did this the first time, I wore black and white, which was a defiation from my original plan to wear all black.  Groundbreaking.  Ok, not really.  But I had been traveling, and didn’t have any other options really.

I had done a little research on “monochromatic fashion” back then, but I did a little more again just to be sure.  I didn’t want to wear all one color, but didn’t want to just wear all black either.  As I suspected, “mononchrome” refers to just a single color, but includes shades of that color as well.  So really, I could have worn black, white, and various shades of one other color and been good.

My bigger challenge this time around was that I had to look presentable.  I was giving a presentation at work and didn’t just want to wear all black because it was easy (and I assure you, it would have been).  But I couldn’t wear jeans either, and all of my colored pants?  They’re jeans.  So yea, tough one.

I ended up settling on black leggings as my “base”.  From there, I added a neutral sweater top, threaded with metallic silver.  Underneath that, in case I got warm, I added a long sleeved black lace top.  On top of it, because I knew I’d be cold, I wore a black cardigan threaded with silver.  I added my black scarf.  On my feet were my fantastic Christian Siriano for Payless Gold Collection champagne pumps, which were probably cheating a little since they’re holographic, but oh well.  I added nude fishnet stockings because I didn’t want blisters from wearing these shoes the first time. I even painted my nails gold with a pretty top coat, though you can’t see it at all in the pics.

Check out the look.

21 Day Challenge: Day 9

I loved this look!  I felt chic and confident in it, which is always a plus.  I felt very myself, and was comfortable both sitting the bulk of the day and presenting, which is always a plus.  The shoes?  Everyone loves them, me included.  The heel height is perfect and they’re great for dressing up and down, I’m finding.  Tons of complements on them!

So that’s day 9 of this round of the 21 Day Challenge.

What do you think?  Do you ever dress monochrome?  If so, do you all out with the color, or stick to neutrals like I do?  Share your thoughts in the comments.

I dress monochrome all the time! I guess I kind of like being matchy-matchy. And, yes, those shoes are amazing. They are the perfect compliment to your sweater.

They’re pretty much my new favorite shoes. They will definitely be paying for themselves!

I almost got them in mint, but decided the fabric would get too dirty too fast. If they were mint ‘leather’ I would have gotten that color. Mine were on sale for $19.99!! The day I got them they were listed online for $29.99 so I don’t know if it was just a special deal at the store or what. SUCH a good deal!!! And yes, nude fishnet kneehighs 🙂
