21 Day Challenge, Day 3: Mixing Prints Like a Pro

The third day of the 21 Day Challenge brought pattern mixing.

The first time I did the 21 Day Challenge, pattern mixing was still kind of new to me, but something I was getting more and more comfortable with.  I went more subtle with my patterns, though they weren’t very traditional, and felt very comfortable in my outfit.

This time around, I went loud.  I wore the floral print dress I got for the Fashion Follows Interiors “Mad Men” themed event I attended with the Chicago Blogger Network, and topped it with a striped jacket from Target.  I added stripey tights and threw on a turtleneck and over the knee socks under my OTK boots for some warmth, because it still isn’t spring here yet.  My nails were still red (though chipping), so I dabbed a little bit of red lipstick on my lips before leaving the house, wearing it more like a stain.

Check out the look.

21 Day Challenge: Day 3

When I put this together, I loved it.  When I wore it, I loved it.  It was brave, especially for work, because it was so loud.  But it all worked together beautifully, and I’m finding that this jacket is crazy versatile, which you know I’m a huge fan of.  I’m also really liking dressing down this dress a little bit, which makes me think it’s a little more versatile of a piece than I initially thought it would be.  Hooray!  I also really liked all the texture in this outfit (surprise surprise).

If I had to pick anything I didn’t like about this it’s that I didn’t wear any accessories at all, and I felt a little naked without at least one necklace on.  I was going to do a gold collar piece over the turtleneck, but it just didn’t work at all, and I didn’t have time to figure something else out.

So that’s day 3 of this round of the 21 Day Challenge.

What do you think?  Would you brave such bold pattern mixing, or would you go more traditional, like polka dots and stripes?  Share your thoughts in the comments.
