The first 21 Day Challenge task was to choose one item to remix 3 times over the next 21 days.
The only specification is that the remix item couldn’t be jeans, which makes sense. When I did this the first time, I chose a striped dress made of jersey. A really comfortable, easy dress to wear, and one I’ve worn numerous times. At this point, it’s kind of a casual-only dress, and not one I’d wear to work, because it’s starting to show a little too much wear to look decent dressed up.
This time around, I went with a vintage Contempo Casuals dress I got at Salvation Army. Like the striped dress, this one is also black and white, but it’s polka dotted instead of striped, and a completely different shape than the jersey dress. I’ve only worn it one other time, but love the way it fits and looks, so I figured it would be a fun piece to work with during this challenge.
Because spring here is pretty much still winter, I had to winterize things a little. Hopefully, that changes as the rest of the days progress, but so far, well, it’s snowing a little today. I wore my Contempo dress with grey sweater tights, a long navy flannel buttondown, and my totally broken in combat boots, which I topped with legwarmers for a little extra warmth. I added a grey scarf, and actually put a black tee underneath the dress (yay layers!). My nails were actually painted for once, a bright red.
Check out the look.
Next time I wear this dress, I’m ironing it, I promise! I just didn’t have time in the morning to do it, and hadn’t realized it was so badly wrinkled at the hem when I was laying stuff out.
I liked the easy comfort and general warmth of this look. Though I think the flannel shirt (which has pockets on the sides) added a little too much volume in the hip for me. Maybe I should have thrown a belt on to narrow my waist a little and let the volme do its thing.
So that’s day 1 of this round of the 21 Day Challenge.
