Back in January I ordered a pack of 50 business cards for Suburban Style Challenge. Because I ordered from MOO I was able to create 8 different backs–4 looks from the shoot I did for my original blog headers, and 4 quotes that “spoke” to me.
Recently, when I was re-filling my business card holder I realized that I don’t really look like the girl on the backs of half of my business cards any more! My hair’s much longer and isn’t platinum any more. I also realized that I was running dangerously low on cards and that it was time to reorder. So I designed myself some new cards, featuring some of my favorite outfits with my current hair–14 different outfits total–and 3 of the 4 quotes I used originally. So 17 different backs! But that’s one of the things I love about MOO–you can upload up to 50 different back side images if you want, making each and every card unique.
While I was designing them, I realized I never explained why I chose all of the quotes I did, so I figured I’d do that now.
It’s a new era in fashion–there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style…
I did actually talk about this Alexander McQueen quote back in January. My thoughts on it remain the same; I still love the idea of fashion being all-encompassing and style becoming more personal, so I left it on the backs of my cards.
Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.
This is a Marilyn Monoroe quote that resonated with me the first time I saw it, but not because I’m a huge Marilyn Monroe fan. It’s not that I don’t think she was pretty, but I know very little about her, to be honest. But that doesn’t mean something she said can’t make sense to me, and this quote certainly does.
Ever since I was a teenager I’ve had a thing for shoes, and as I’ve grown, I’ve realized that shoes can make you feel certain things about yourself. What’s more is that shoes also make an impression on others. And, I’ve realized, that if you embrace how shoes make you feel, and learn understand the effect they have on people (and thus learn when to wear what kinds of shoes), the choices you make drive your success, even when those choices seem small.
So yea, with the right shoes, I most definitely believe that a woman can conquer the world, even if it’s just her world!
Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.
When I was searching for quotes that related to style and fashion, this Rachel Zoe one jumped out at me. It kind of ties to two above quotes together, in a way. It nods to the power wardrobe (and shoes) have, that Marilyn Monroe talks about, and it also rings true with what Alexander McQueen says about fashion being more about the individual and personal style.
And I think this one’s really true as well. Your style is largely what gives someone their first impression of you, and how you dress can say a lot about you without you actually saying a word.
So there you have it. The 3 quotes on the backs of some of my business cards, mixed in among 14 recent looks featuring my ombre, longer hair. What are your thoughts on the quotes? Can you relate to them too?
Wait! No pics of the new cards? Check Facebook… I’ll upload one this evening.
