This random outfits post seems so short compared to the last one, but I have to keep reminding myself that the last one was two months’ worth of outfits! Anyway, here’s some outfits from May. I didn’t shoot everything I wanted to, as there were a bunch of cute outfits Memorial Day weekend that I just didn’t get around to taking pics of… but that’s ok.
Grey Maxi Skirt
I bought this skirt last year sometime at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I’d been looking for something comfortable, easy to wear, and versatile. I never thought I’d find it in a lighter heather grey, but I did, and it’s a great skirt that goes from work to weekend easily. I wore it with a black tank topped with a sheer navy top over it. The sheer top, a clearance find at Target, has little gold dots all over it. I topped it with my black waffle knit cardigan, because it had gotten a little chilly at the beginning of May again. I wore sheer black tights under the skirt along with my tan wedges. I added 4 long necklaces for a little extra texture.
While this is an outfit I’m sure I’ll revisit, it’s one I prefer to save for fall, not be wearing in spring! It was comfortable though, and looked really nice despite that, so it was win-win! I do think that I might give this skirt a chance on a cool summer night… I’m kind of in love with the knot in back of this similar skirt.
I got this dress at Discovery at the beginning of spring. I love the bird print and the fact that this dress has pockets! It’s pretty light too, which means I’ll be able to wear it into summer, but can add tights under it for fall too. Yay for versatility! I added a coral open cardigan (H&M) over the dress, which I belted with a tan and black braided belt (Discovery). I wore cream OTK socks scrunched down to knee height with my 2-in-one fold-over tan boots (left full height). Around my neck is a necklace I got on super-clearance from Carson’s that I regret not getting a better photo of, as it’s really pretty.
Another great outfit for this month, and one I’m sure I’ll be wearing a version of again. Or at the very least, remixing pieces of again soon… lots of incredibly versatile stuff here!
This outfit is one I threw together one morning, and found myself falling more and more in love with as the day went on. Normally, not stuff I’d pair together really, but it worked so nicely that I’ll very likely wear it again. I layered a grey tank under a 1/2 buttondown top from Discovery, on top of which I wore my GAP denim vest. I wore my black skinny pants (also from GAP) with my Carlos Santana wedges. I added four trusty necklaces (they’ve been getting a lot of wear lately, as you can tell) for some texture and that was it. A simple outfit that worked out really nicely.
I was outside taking these shots while Trixie was takin’ care of business. When she was done she came over for some lovin’ mid-shoot. Of course, I obliged!
This outfit was kind of a no-brainer, but I wanted to share my newly dyed coral jeans. I got these jeans them for $3.99 at Goodwill and they were a rather interesting shade of peach (and by “interesting” I mean it looked like I wasn’t wearing pants at all when I tried them on!) . But they’re GAP, and they fit me beautifully, and I couldn’t pass them up… so I got them knowing I’d dye them coral. They came out the exact color I wanted, and have some spots of fuschia dye on them because I didn’t dissolve it all the way before adding it into my water… but that’s ok, it adds interest. They’re perfect and I really like them.
I paired them with a simple black dolman top from Forever21 and (again) 4 or 5 long necklaces (I think it’s 4, but it was hard to tell and I snapped these pics super fast before the gym one night, so I only had 3 to look at). I added my trusty MIA Hepburn pointed-toe flats, cuffed the jeans, and it was perfection. Easy, perfect for work, and comfortable. A few complements on my jeans too, which is always nice after a DIY.
They are a bit of a challenge to style, I’m finding… something I have to get used to I guess. As I write this, I’m wearing them again, but it’s nearly an identical outfit! Gotta work on that… but you’ll be seeing them again for sure. I plan on mastering colored denim!
I had an event for work in the city that I had to attend, so I took the train down… and was reminded what a lovely commute it really is. But it was perfect weather and I caught an express both into the city and on the way home. I know if I hadn’t I’d have remembered what I didn’t like about working downtown. Anyway, I wore my swapped lace-print dress with fab grey Guess wedge booties. I layered 3 necklaces, all from Forever21–one cream and silver seed bead necklace, one 3-layer box chain necklace, and one with 2 layers of mint-colored drops. I filled my purse with a grey cardigan (which I didn’t need), my Nook tablet (which I didn’t use), and all sorts of other stuff. I normally would have switched to a bigger bag, but getting up at 5A doesn’t agree with me, so I didn’t have time. You can’t really tell, but I scrunched my hair here and have more makeup on than usual.
I got a lot of complements on this outfit. The dress fits me perfect and accents just the right spots, but is still modest and covers everything it should. I’d for sure wear all of this again, just like this. I really liked the mix of delicate and pretty with the toughness of these boots and the texture of the necklaces. This dress has swiftly become a favorite, and will be a travel staple because of its versatility and anti-wrinkle properties.
I got this jumpsuit at Goodwill and was really exited about it. It has pockets, is a color that looks good on me, is lightweight and perfect for late spring and cool summer nights, and I can wear it casually or a little dressier. But when I started looking for pictures of it online, I came across it on WTForever21! Oh no!! But, instead of re-donating it, I decided I’d rock it. And for a first attempt, I think I did pretty good with it. I cut off the self-tie (that was just in the front and didn’t pull through) and belted it with a black braided belt. I added black gladiator heels and an arm party and called it a day. I also tucked under the bottoms of the pantlegs and scrunched them a little bit. I may actually shorten them, because I think I liked them shorter better.
I wore this for my mom’s birthday dinner, which was just a meal at home, but it was nice to feel a little dressed up and be comfortable at the same time. I think the only major issue I have with this is that when I belt it, my husband says I get “80’s butt” (that’s what he calls it when you accent your waist in pants–he says doing that makes your butt look really long, and since it was common in the 80’s… well, you get “80’s butt” LOL). So I have to figure out how to combat that next time I wear this.
So that’s it for May’s random outfits.
What was your favorite? What do you think of the jumpsuit–is it as hideous as WTForever21 thinks, or does it work? Any suggestions for my coral jeans? Let me know in the comments!
